چکیده

Substituted Benzoquinones, Photosystem II Acceptors Benzoquinones (BQ) substituted with alkyl or alkoxy groups 2,5-dimethoxy-3,6-dichloro-/>benzoquinone (DCDMQ), 2,3,5,6-tetramethoxy-/?-benzoquinone (TMQ) have been tested for their electron affinity and site of action in the photosynthetic electron transport chain in whole cells and chloroplasts. Both the substituted compounds were found to be good electron acceptors of photosystem II. DCDMQ showed higher electron affinity than BQ as demonstrated by its two fold stimulation of 0 2 evolution in chloroplasts and efficiency in quenching DCMU fluorescence. TMQ on the other hand showed low electron affinity.

The Effect of Analogues of Dibromothymoquinone and of Bromonitrothymol on Photosynthetic Electron Flow

Photosynthesis, Inhibitors, Herbicides, Dibromothymoquinone, Nitrophenols, Chloroplast Alkyl substituted derivatives of halogenated p-benzoquinones, of halogenated /7-nitrophenols, and of 2,4-dinitrophenols were tested in the inhibition of photosynthetic electron flow in chloro plasts. The effect of the compounds on photoreductions by photosystem I or II, on a TMPD bypass in NADPH formation an...

Two sites in the photosynthetic electron transport chain of spinach chloroplasts are sensitive to inhibition by the plastoquinone antagonist dibromothymoquinone (2,5-dibromo3-methyl-&isopropyl-p-benzoquinone). This compound imposes maximal inhibition on reactions involving electron transport from water to a terminal acceptor such as ferricyanide at concentrations of about 1 PM. At concentration...

Herbicide and Plastoquinone Binding to Photosystem II

Photoaffinity Label, Plastoquinone Depletion, Photosystem II Particles, Chlamydomonas In plastoquinone-depleted thylakoids “D C M U -type” herbicides generally have a lower binding affinity as compared to control thylakoids, with the exception o f DC M U itself. Contrary, binding properties of phenolic herbicides are not affected by plastoquinone depletion. DCM U in plastoquinone-depleted thyla...

Silicomolybdate and silicotungstate mediated dichlorophenyldimethylurea-insensitive photosystem II reaction: electron flow, chlorophyll a fluorescence and delayed light emission changes.

We have investigated the possible role of silicomolybdate and silicotungstate as acceptors of electrons in chloroplasts directly from Q, the primary electron acceptor of Photosystem II. Our data show: 1. Either of these compounds can accept electrons directly from Q in a 3-(3', 4'-dichlorophenyl)-1, 1-dimethylurea (DCMU)-insensitive electron transport; however, the DCMU insensitivity is only s...

Electron Transport from QA to Thymoquinone in a Synechococcus Oxygen-Evolving Photosystem II Preparation: Role of QB and Binding Affinity of Thymoquinone to the QB Site

We have recently shown that binding affinities o f benzoquinones can be estimated by two methods in photosystem (PS) II particles (K. Satoh et al., Biochim. Biophys. Acta 1 1 0 2 ,4 5 -5 2 (1992)). Using these methods we calculated the binding affinity o f thymoquinone (2-methyl5-isopropyl-/?-benzoquinone) to the QB site and studied how the quinone accepts electrons in oxygen-evolving PS II par...
